Fireproof Coating
Fireproof coatings are passive fire protection systems for steel structures generally based on intumescent materials and their principal function is to increase the fire resistance of the steel by creating a barrier called ‘Char’ between the steel and the swelled intumescent coating.
Normally, the breakpoint of steel is 535 deg C. at which point steel loses almost half of its strength and so the goal is to keep the steel away from reaching 535 deg C for a certain period of time, normally from 15 minutes to 240 minutes, industrial standards being 60 minutes & 120 minutes
